Seocho District (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) is recruiting 10 teams to participate in the ‘Seocho AIoT Smart City Makerthon & Conference,’ which provides an opportunity to unleash creative ideas related to smart cities, until August 1.
The ‘Smart City Makerthon’ is a compound word of ‘making’ and ‘marathon,’ referring to a competition where participants form teams and create prototype smart services to solve urban problems within a set period by generating ideas.
The contest theme is to discover innovative ideas that solve district administrative issues, implementing solutions based on regional intelligence technologies such as AI and big data, as well as software technology, into actual works.
This makerthon, held in collaboration with Soongsil University AI Convergence Research Institute, is part of Seocho District and Soongsil University’s ‘Regional Intelligence Innovation Talent Development Project’ aimed at expanding the base of AI technology.
The recruitment targets are Seocho residents (middle school students and above), workers in Seocho District, and university students enrolled in Seoul. Through document screening, a total of 10 teams (about 40 people) will be selected to receive expert education and mentoring for about seven weeks starting from September 6.
The education consists of five sessions, covering ▲ physical computing (Arduino) and IoT product development practice ▲ product & UI/UX design education, basic education on 3D modeling/printing/laser cutting machines ▲ basic AI technology education and practice ▲ product development strategy and methodology practice ▲ and presentation preparation.
In particular, professional instructors from Soongsil University and others participate in the entire process from planning to prototype production, providing education and mentoring on team assignments to help concretize creative ideas.
The prototypes produced will be exhibited at the ‘Seocho AIoT Smart City Conference’ held on September 26 at The-K Hotel (located in Yangjae-dong). After the teams present their works there, three teams with innovative creations applicable to district administration will be selected through final judging.
The grand prize winner will receive 1,000,000 KRW, the excellence award winner 700,000 KRW, and the encouragement award winner 500,000 KRW, each accompanied by a certificate.
Additionally, the conference will invite domestic and international scholars to share recent policy directions and technology trends regarding smart cities with residents, providing an opportunity to strengthen Seocho District’s global smart city capabilities.
