World No. 1 Ko Jin-young bruised her pride last week.
She was 'cut off' at the 78th US Women's Open, for which she had prepared thoroughly. Although she has already won twice this year and firmly holds the world No. 1 ranking, she failed to advance to the main event of the US Women's Open. Ko Jin-young has resolved to stop her downward trend. From the 13th (local time), she will participate in the Dana Open, a US Women's Professional Golf (LPGA) Tour event held over four days at Highland Meadows Golf Club (par 71, 6,555 yards) in Sylvania, Ohio, USA, with a total prize money of $1.75 million.
Since debuting on the LPGA Tour in 2018, Ko Jin-young has not competed in this tournament. It was always excluded from her tournament schedule plans. This year, due to changes in the LPGA Tour schedule, she will challenge for her first victory at Highland Meadows Golf Club. The local weather during the tournament period is similar to typical summer weather in Korea, and the course layout is familiar, so good results are expected.
Started in 1984, the Dana Open is a 'winning stronghold' for Korean players. They have combined for an impressive 12 victories. The 'living legend' Park Se-ri has won five times. Kim Mi-hyun, Lee Eun-jung, Choi Na-yeon, Yoo So-yeon, Choi Woon-jung, Kim In-kyung, and Kim Se-young have also collected winner's trophies. 2019 champion Kim Se-young and 2015 champion Choi Woon-jung are also aiming for the top spot again after a long time. Korea is also represented by Jeon In-ji, Choi Hye-jin, Yoo Hae-ran, Park Sung-hyun, Lee Jeong-eun 6, Shin Ji-eun, and Kim A-rim.
