View original imageThe YouTube channel, which is based on the concept of 'a girlfriend seen from the boyfriend's perspective,' has gained great popularity in several countries including Korea and Japan. On the 9th, a video titled '300,000 won Japan travel budget, will she like it?' was uploaded to 'Gayo-i Kiugi.'
Upon arriving in Kitakyushu, Japan, the couple, with Editor Mon (real name Lee Dong-geon) telling Gayo-i (real name Kim Ga-young), "Your clothes look like the Rising Sun flag for coming to Japan," officially began their trip.
Then, looking at the decorated airport entrance, Editor Mon said, "There is Kamikaze here." 'Kamikaze' refers to the Japanese 'suicide attack squadron' during the late stages of World War II, who loaded bombs onto fighter planes and crashed into enemy warships.
Editor Mon bought and drank bottled water at a nearby convenience store. During this, Editor Mon said, "Ah, as expected, the taste is different. It tastes a bit like Fukushima." The Kitakyushu they visited is about 1,000 km away from the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
While wandering around Kitakyushu, Gayo-i commented, "This is not countryside, it's a complete city. How did they make it like this? They must have had money to build this." Editor Mon responded, "Are you trying to talk about the 'Lost Decade' now?"
However, their remarks have caused discomfort among viewers and drawn criticism. Japanese netizens who saw this said, "As a Japanese person who liked and watched your videos, I was happy you came to Japan, but I am disappointed. It is unpleasant," expressing anger.
As the controversy continued, Gayo-i Kiugi posted in the notice comments, "We apologize if anyone felt uncomfortable with the content in the video. However, some Japanese people are saying, 'Is it okay for us to mock the Sewol ferry disaster?' but I don't understand how the contaminated water discharge and World War II can be compared on the same level as the Sewol ferry accident and the Itaewon tragedy."
They added, "Somewhere, the editor is being called a pro-Japan fanatic for going to Japan in this situation, and somewhere else, a anti-Japan leftist," further fueling the controversy.
Meanwhile, in the video, there are currently almost no critical comments about Gayo-i Kiugi. It appears that negative comments are being deleted in real time.
