KHNP Holds Public Hearing for Residents of Gijang-gun on Draft Environmental Radiation Impact Assessment for Continued Operation of Kori Units 3 and 4
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Gori Nuclear Power Headquarters (Head Lee Gwang-hoon) held a draft public hearing on the radiation environmental impact assessment for the continued operation of Gori Units 3 and 4 on the 10th at the Gori Sports Culture Center Multi-Performance Hall in Gijang-gun, Busan.

View original imageThe public hearing for Gijang-gun residents held that day was attended by about 300 residents and proceeded in the order of explanation of the draft radiation environmental impact assessment for the continued operation of Gori Units 3 and 4, explanation of the results and main contents of the public inspection, responses to residents' statements, and on-site questions and answers.
The attending residents of Gijang-gun expressed their hope that the continued operation of Gori Units 3 and 4 would be promoted with safety as the top priority and serve as an opportunity to contribute to regional development, showing great interest in the future progress of continued operation and local communication plans.
Lee Gwang-hoon, head of the Gori Nuclear Power Headquarters, said, "I hope today's public hearing served as an opportunity for residents to feel more assured about the safety of the radiation environmental impact caused by the continued operation of Gori Units 3 and 4," adding, "We will ensure that the continued operation of Gori Units 3 and 4 is carried out based on the trust of the public through continuous communication and promotion."

The Gori Nuclear Power Headquarters will hold a total of four public hearings by July 14 to collect opinions from residents of 13 basic local governments, including Busan (Gijang-gun, Geumjeong-gu, Nam-gu, Dong-gu, Dongnae-gu, Suyeong-gu, Haeundae-gu), Ulsan (Ulju-gun, Jung-gu, Nam-gu, Buk-gu, Dong-gu), and Yangsan, which requested public hearings among the areas subject to opinion collection as stipulated by the Nuclear Safety Act and related laws.
1) Busan (6 districts): Geumjeong-gu, Nam-gu, Dong-gu (Jwachon-dong, Beomil 1, 2, 5-dong), Dongnae-gu, Suyeong-gu, Haeundae-gu
2) Ulsan (4 districts): Jung-gu, Nam-gu, Dong-gu, Buk-gu
3) Yangsan: Dong-myeon, Seochang-dong, Soju-dong, Pyeongsan-dong, Deokgye-dong
