Now in its 9th year, the JW Art Awards is an event designed to provide a platform for creative activities for artists with disabilities. It is the first art competition in Korea hosted by a corporate public welfare foundation. According to the foundation, the total prize money is the highest among domestic art exhibitions for people with disabilities.
Anyone aged 16 or older who qualifies as a person with a disability under Article 2 of the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities Act and Article 2 of its Enforcement Decree can apply for this competition. The contest accepts pure art works such as Korean painting and Western painting, and only works created this year under the theme "Together Again, Us Together" are eligible.
Artists wishing to participate can submit their application form and artwork images on the Jungwoo Academic Welfare Foundation website by the 25th of next month. There is no entry fee, and after the first round of screening, selected candidates will submit their final works for the second round of judging.
The final winners will be announced on the competition website in October. One Grand Prize winner will receive 5 million KRW, two Excellence Award winners will receive 3 million KRW each, two Merit Award winners will receive 2 million KRW each, two Encouragement Award winners will receive 1 million KRW each, and 20 Honorable Mentions will receive 300,000 KRW each.
A representative of the Jungwoo Academic Welfare Foundation said, "As we have regained our precious daily lives with the COVID-19 endemic, we chose the theme 'Together Again, Us Together' to encourage all members of society to gather and enjoy cultural and artistic activities once more. We look forward to the active interest and participation of artists with disabilities who will shine brightly like gems in this competition."
Detailed information about this competition can be found on the Jungwoo Academic Welfare Foundation website.
