Government Holds Semiconductor Materials, Parts, and Equipment Meeting to Explore Additional Support Measures
The government held a meeting with semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment (SoBuJang) companies to listen to their difficulties and to discover additional field-oriented support measures.
On the 7th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that First Vice Minister Jang Young-jin visited Dongjin Semichem's Balan plant, which succeeded in developing and mass-producing photoresist for extreme ultraviolet (EUV), and held a meeting with semiconductor SoBuJang companies such as S&S Tech, FST, Esol, and LOT Vacuum.
The companies attending the meeting expressed opinions that as semiconductor processes such as EUV become more advanced, demand for related SoBuJang is expected to continue growing. They suggested strengthening support for technology development of advanced SoBuJang, expanding cooperative projects with demand companies, establishing advanced infrastructure for product development and performance evaluation, and making efforts to minimize the impact on domestic companies due to recent export controls by competing countries.
The government has previously announced various support measures for domestic semiconductor SoBuJang self-reliance through strategies such as ▲Achieving Semiconductor Superpower Strategy ▲National Advanced Industry Promotion Strategy, including the establishment of advanced semiconductor technology centers, expansion of SoBuJang contract departments, expansion of technology-leading research and development (R&D), creation of new funds for SoBuJang financial support (such as semiconductor ecosystem funds), and the establishment of clusters where large-scale production fabs and SoBuJang ecosystems are concentrated (such as advanced system semiconductor clusters).

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy organized this meeting to discover additional field-oriented support measures by listening to the current difficulties of semiconductor SoBuJang companies beyond existing support measures. Vice Minister Jang said, "We believe that the competitiveness of the domestic semiconductor SoBuJang ecosystem is directly linked to securing a semiconductor super-gap, and we will continuously strive to prepare support measures that do not fall behind competing countries." He added, "The government plans to promptly implement announced policy tasks such as the advanced semiconductor technology center, expand core strategic technologies and leading companies in SoBuJang, designate national advanced strategic industries and SoBuJang specialized complexes, and steadily promote government support related to SoBuJang, so we ask for active investment."
