Gochang-gun Signs MOU for Comprehensive Theme Park Construction... 350 Billion KRW Investment

Gochang County, HJ Magnolia Yongpyong Hotel & Resort Co., Ltd., and Jeollabuk-do have signed a tripartite investment agreement.

On the afternoon of the 6th, the county announced that the ‘Gochang Comprehensive Theme Park Development Project Investment Agreement Ceremony’ was held at the Governor’s Office of Jeonbuk Provincial Government, attended by Shim Deok-seop, Governor of Gochang County, Kim Kwan-young, Governor of Jeonbuk Province, and Shin Dal-soon, CEO of Yongpyong Resort.

Yongpyong Resort plans to invest approximately 350 billion KRW by 2027 to build a resort-type complex resort in the Simwon-myeon area of Gochang County and develop leisure facilities.

The accommodation facilities are expected to be of medium to large scale with at least 320 rooms.

The county has faced difficulties in attracting tourists and hosting large-scale events due to a shortage of accommodation facilities. With this investment by Yongpyong Resort, the establishment of large-scale accommodation facilities is expected to transform Gochang from a pass-through location into a destination where visitors stay.

Additionally, through the Gochang Comprehensive Theme Park Development Project, more than 600 new jobs will be created, and tourism infrastructure and commercial districts will be formed, maximizing the impact on the local economy.

The county anticipates that the opening of Saemangeum International Airport (scheduled for 2029) and the opening of Noeul Bridge (scheduled for 2030) will make this a key project that changes the landscape of tourism in the western region of Gochang.

A dedicated team has also been formed to support the smooth progress of the project. The company is reportedly accelerating the project by commissioning architectural basic plans from architects.

Governor Shim Deok-seop said, “The comprehensive theme park development has become more tangible through the tripartite agreement with Jeonbuk Province. We will cooperate and communicate more closely to support the successful promotion of the project.”
