Kang Hee-eop Appointed as New Chairman of the Land Transportation Commission at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport... Expert in Transportation and Railways
President Yoon Suk-yeol appointed Kang Hee-eop as the new chairman of the Metropolitan Transport Committee (Daegwangwi) under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport at the vice ministerial level on the 6th.
Chairman Kang was born in 1967 in Gunsan, Jeonbuk. He graduated from Gunsan High School and Korea University with a degree in Civil Engineering, and earned a master's degree in Transport Policy from the University of Leeds in the UK.
He entered public service through the 30th Technical Examination and has mostly worked in the transportation and railway sectors. He served as Director of Urban Metropolitan Transport, Director of Green City, and Director of Road Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. He also held positions as Director of Transport and Traffic at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, Director of Technical Safety Policy, and Director of Railway Safety Policy. From 2021, he served as Director of the Railway Bureau for one year, and has been a standing member of Daegwangwi since August last year.
