Jang is accused of extorting approximately 55 million won over 11 incidents targeting intoxicated individuals in entertainment districts such as Gangnam, Seocho, and Songpa in Seoul from July last year to last month. Jang selected his victims while scouting for intoxicated people and pretended to support them, then took them to places without CCTV to commit the crimes.
At around 2:10 a.m. on the 27th of last month, Jang followed an intoxicated man in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, assaulted him, forcibly made him unlock his smartphone with fingerprint recognition, and transferred 10 million won to his own account. Additionally, he took out loans via internet banking and transferred the money to himself.
Jang exploited the victims' impaired memories due to intoxication to threaten them. He used false information such as "I hit my pregnant wife and knocked her down," "You vomited in the vehicle," and "I will press charges" to intimidate the victims. He even went to the victims' homes to threaten them. It was reported that victim A is unmarried.
The police, while investigating similar cases, secured CCTV footage confirming the crime and tracked Jang. He was apprehended on the 30th of last month on the street near Seolleung Station in Gangnam-gu. The police applied for an arrest warrant on the day of his arrest, which was issued on the 3rd.
According to the police, Jang denies his crimes. He is unemployed and is known to have frequented PC bangs and similar places. All the extorted money has been spent.
