Goheung Rice Selected as a Top 10 Brand for 3 Consecutive Years

Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that ‘Suhocheon-sa Healthy Rice,’ produced and processed at Heungyang Nonghyup's comprehensive rice processing center, was selected for the 2023 Jeollanam-do Top 10 High-Quality Brand Rice for the third consecutive year on July 3.

The selection of Jeonnam's Top 10 High-Quality Brand Rice is promoted by Jeollanam-do to revitalize rice sales and ensure continuous quality management through competitive selection. ‘Suhocheon-sa Healthy Rice,’ produced by Heungyang Nonghyup (Chairman Jo Seong-moon), has been selected for three consecutive years, firmly establishing itself as a representative brand rice of Jeonnam.

The Jeonnam Top 10 Brand Rice is selected through random sample purchases by specialized institutions such as the Agricultural Technology Center, Agricultural Products Quality Management Service, Health and Environment Research Institute, and Korea Food Research Institute. The selection is based on quality (taste, appearance, varietal purity) and thorough document and field evaluations.

‘Suhocheon-sa Healthy Rice,’ grown in the reclaimed land of Haechangman and nurtured by the clean sea breeze, is entirely contract-cultivated using pesticide-free and molasses farming methods. The entire process from contracting, seedling raising, cultivation, harvesting, to purchasing is professionally guided and managed by the Nonghyup, securing a solid position as a representative brand rice of Goheung.

Additionally, it has been recognized for its taste and reliability through annual supply contracts of 500 tons for school meals in major cities such as Seoul, and 3,000 tons to NS Home Shopping and large retail companies.

A county official stated, “We have actively promoted facility modernization projects such as high-quality rice distribution activation, renovation of the comprehensive rice processing center, and establishment of drying and storage facilities for rice to produce high-quality Goheung rice.” He added, “We will continue to work closely with Heungyang Nonghyup RPC and producing farmers to ensure that ‘Suhocheon-sa Healthy Rice’ maintains its reputation as a brand rice not only in Jeonnam but nationwide.”
