It has been found that cooling with the door open can increase electricity bills by 33% compared to cooling with the door closed.
On the afternoon of the 5th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the 'Summer Energy Saving Campaign Launch Ceremony' in Myeongdong, Seoul, and announced this.
An official from the Ministry explained at the launch ceremony, "Cooling with the door open can increase power consumption by 66% and electricity bills by 33% compared to cooling with the door closed," and urged, "Please participate in energy saving by closing the door while cooling and maintaining the appropriate temperature of 26℃."
After the campaign launch ceremony held together with civic groups and energy public enterprises, the Ministry conducted street campaigns focusing on major commercial districts and shopping areas with civic groups. Cheon Young-gil, Director of the Energy Policy Office, who attended the launch ceremony, said, “This summer is expected to see record-high electricity demand due to more rain and heatwaves than usual, making wise energy consumption by citizens more important than ever,” and added, “The government will also focus its policy capabilities to motivate citizens to proactively save energy and strengthen incentives.”
