"Carbon Neutral Era, the Future of Eco-Friendly Fuels..." International Symposium to be Held on the 11th
The Korea Automobile Journalists Association, the U.S. Embassy in Korea, and the U.S. Grains Council will hold the 2023 International Symposium on Eco-friendly Fuels on the 11th at the Four Seasons Hotel in Seoul.
This symposium will focus on the theme "The Role of Eco-friendly Fuels in Achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2050." It is sponsored by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Environment, and the Korea Biofuel Forum. The event targets relevant government ministries, energy-related affiliated organizations, foreign embassies in Korea, and related companies and organizations. It will review major country-specific policy trends and the current status of eco-friendly fuels such as bioethanol, renewable synthetic fuels (E-fuels), and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and seek realistic policies suitable for domestic circumstances to reduce carbon emissions in the transportation sector, proposing solutions.

In the first part of the event, Mike Lorenz, Senior Vice President of GlosEnergy, will present on "Global and U.S. Ethanol Policy Trends and Prospects." Dr. Lee Eui-sung from the U.S. National Argonne Laboratory will discuss "Carbon Reduction Effects of Ethanol Based on Life Cycle Analysis and Additional Reduction Opportunities," and Lewena Torres Odonez, Ethanol Technical Advisory Consultant, will cover "Compatibility of Bioethanol Blended Fuel Vehicles and E10 Fuel Supply Infrastructure."
Professor Lee Ki-hyung of Hanyang University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering will address global automotive industry prospects and fuels, while Professor Sang Byung-in of Hanyang University’s Department of Chemical Engineering will discuss the current status and prospects of E-fuel technology. Fred Gattala, Partner at Waterfall Group, will present on global sustainable aviation fuel policies and the prospects for ethanol as a fuel.
The second part will feature a panel discussion chaired by Professor Kim Jeong-in of Chung-Ang University’s Department of Economics. Panelists include Research Fellow Kim Jae-kyung from the Korea Energy Economics Institute, Policy General Manager Kim Kang-won from the Korea Energy Agency, Director Chae Young-seok of Global Auto News, Kim Hak-soo, Head of the U.S. Grains Council Korea Office, as well as the previously mentioned Professor Lee Ki-hyung, Dr. Lee Eui-sung, and Technical Advisory Consultant Lewena.
