'New Digital Manufacturing Innovation Promotion Strategy' Under Preparation
On the 4th, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced that it will fully implement the subordinate legislation of the "Act on Promotion of Smart Manufacturing Innovation for Small and Medium Enterprises," which was enacted last January, starting from the 4th.
The main contents of the Smart Manufacturing Innovation Act include ▲ the policy promotion system for digital transformation of small and medium manufacturing industries ▲ detailed support policies such as smart factory construction ▲ matters related to policy implementation management including sanctions against fraudulent actors. This marks a significant step in establishing a legal basis for the stable promotion of manufacturing innovation policies and the activation of a data-driven manufacturing innovation ecosystem.

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups stated that, taking the implementation of the Smart Manufacturing Innovation Act as an opportunity, it is preparing the current government's manufacturing innovation strategy for small and medium enterprises that reflects global manufacturing paradigm trends such as autonomous manufacturing applied with artificial intelligence and digital twins, overcoming the problems of government-led smart factory support projects so far. The plan includes fostering leading models of manufacturing innovation through customized support for each company, and establishing a data economy foundation through manufacturing data standardization and the construction of data-sharing infrastructure. Kim Woo-jung, Director of Regional Enterprise Policy at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, said, “With the stable policy environment for promoting digital manufacturing innovation established through the implementation of this law, we plan to strongly promote digital transformation policies for small and medium manufacturing enterprises in the future.”
