Jeon Seong-su, District Mayor, “Discovering and nurturing youth artists, providing opportunities to perform at cultural events, and offering chances for independence”
Seocho-gu (District Mayor Jeon Seong-su) and the Seocho Cultural Foundation (CEO Kang Eun-kyung) launched various activities and support along with the 3rd cohort inauguration ceremony of the Seoripul Youth Arts Group on the 30th of last month.
The ‘Seoripul Youth Arts Group’ is a project initiated by the district since 2019, marking the first basic local government to select outstanding youth artists and provide one-stop support for three years from development to independence.
The 3rd cohort of the Seoripul Youth Arts Group was finalized last month through a public contest and evaluation, selecting a total of 7 talented youth artists based on the ‘electronic music’ genre, consisting of 5 individuals and 1 team (2 members).
They will receive financial support such as activity and production expenses until next year, along with producing coaching from professional producers and music directors. In the final year, 2025, one outstanding team will be selected as a resident group of the Seocho Cultural Foundation, providing an opportunity to become independent world-class artists.
The selected support group this year plans to hold one planned performance in the second half of the year, continue capacity-building activities such as workshops, and invited performances. Additionally, reflecting the characteristics of the genre, they will perform various shows using locations throughout Seocho-gu, such as parks or indoor venues, as their stages.
The ‘Seoripul Youth Arts Group’ has expanded to a 3-year program to establish a long-term and systematic youth artist development system. So far, a total of 4 teams have been supported, and they have gained experience and built independence by presenting healing performances for residents on various stages such as the ‘2022 Jarasum Festival’ invited performance, ‘Seoripul Music Concert & Bazaar for Sharing and Recovery,’ and the ‘Seocho Music & Art Festival.’
