Goheung-gun Successfully Concludes 1-Year Press Conference of the 8th Elected Administration

Announcement of 1-Year Performance and Operational Direction for Establishing a 100,000 Population Base in Goheung

On the 3rd, Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Yeong-min) announced that it held a press conference marking the first anniversary of the 8th local government at the county office’s Uju Hall, attended by more than 80 people including journalists and senior officials.

The meeting proceeded with an explanation of the major achievements of the county administration during the first year of the 8th local government, the future direction of county administration, and a dialogue with journalists. At the event, Governor Gong Yeong-min expressed his ambition, saying, “The past year was a time to lay the ‘foundation’ for establishing a population of 100,000 in Goheung in 10 years, and the next three years will be the time to make this a ‘reality.’”

Governor Gong Yeong-min highlighted the major achievements of the past year, including ▲designation of Goheung as a space launch vehicle industry cluster ▲designation of a national industrial complex for space launch vehicles ▲establishment of a drone-centered city through drone (UAM) demonstration and commercialization ▲full-scale operation of the Smart Farm Innovation Valley and creation of a large-scale Goheung-type agricultural, fishery, and livestock smart farm innovation valley.

Additionally, he cited ▲promotion of transportation infrastructure such as the Gwangju-Naro Space Center highway and railway construction between Beolgyo-Goheung Station and Nokdong Station ▲securing national funds through attraction of large-scale national projects ▲promotion of Nokdong New Port as a Jeju logistics base and expansion of agricultural and fishery product distribution between Goheung and Jeju ▲branding of Goheung agricultural and fishery products and expansion of domestic and international sales channels ▲realization of the warmest welfare for residents nationwide ▲differentiated strategies for population inflow as the No. 1 destination for returning farmers and fishermen ▲establishment of infrastructure for the era of 10 million tourists ▲and realization of a happy Goheung where residents are united.

He then revealed a blueprint for the next three years of county administration, emphasizing the full-scale realization of the vision to establish a population base of 100,000 in Goheung in 10 years and explaining key projects that will lead Goheung’s hopeful future.

First, he outlined plans for ▲a vigorous leap to establish Goheung as a space and aerospace hub city ▲improvement of accessibility and residential conditions to build a livable Goheung ▲comprehensive efforts to secure resources for regional development ▲creation of conditions for the era of 10 million tourists in Goheung ▲strengthening competitiveness in agriculture, fishery, and livestock industries and pioneering domestic and international sales channels ▲providing meticulous welfare and customized talent development that moves people ▲differentiated population attraction strategies and revitalization of the local economy ▲creation of cultural, historical, and sports environments enjoyed together in Goheung ▲construction of a clean Goheung where residents can live safely and comfortably ▲and implementation of courteous and transparent communication administration as Goheung County Office’s representative brand.

Furthermore, Governor Gong Yeong-min stated, “On the occasion of the first anniversary of the 8th local government, a satisfaction survey on county administration was conducted from June 13 to 15 over three days by a professional polling agency targeting 1,093 residents. The positive evaluation of ‘doing well’ was 84.3%, showing high satisfaction, while the negative evaluation of ‘not doing well’ was only 15.7%. The high positive ratings were due to satisfaction with space and aerospace policy implementation at 89.4%, tourism infrastructure development and tourism industry promotion at 89.1%, followed by meticulous welfare system establishment at 88.7%, and road traffic and residential infrastructure expansion at 87.8%,” adding, “I will take this as encouragement to do better and will continue to listen to residents’ opinions and practice responsible administration that communicates with residents for Goheung’s development and revitalization of the local economy.”

He continued, “Since the beginning of my term, I have considered the foundation of resident unity as the most important, and I believe that pushing forward large projects based on this is the greatest achievement,” and added, “I ask journalists to always take an interest in Goheung’s changes and development and to continue providing much advice.”
