Jeonnam Province Holds Intensive Discussions on Summer Electricity Supply Management
Energy Efficiency Council Launch
Jeonnam Province recently launched the ‘Jeollanam-do Energy Efficiency Council’ to discuss proactive measures for the summer power supply crisis and pledged that public institutions will take the lead in this effort.
According to the province on the 3rd, the Energy Efficiency Council includes 28 organizations such as Jeonnam Province, 22 cities and counties, Korea Electric Power Corporation, Korea Energy Agency, regional headquarters of Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, Jeonnam Technopark, and the Green Energy Research Institute.
At the inaugural meeting, the council focused on the necessity of maximizing energy use efficiency for proactive response to the power supply crisis during the summer power supply countermeasure period, which lasts for three months until September 15.
In particular, they emphasized ▲ implementation of energy saving in public institutions during summer ▲ establishment of a real-time energy data platform for public institutions ▲ intensive promotion of ‘Reducing 1 kWh per day’ and ‘Energy Cashback’ subscription ▲ replacement of outdoor lighting with light-emitting diode (LED) lights, and requested voluntary participation from cities, counties, and related organizations.

Son Myung-do, Director of the Energy Policy Division of Jeonnam Province, said, “For energy efficiency policies to spread and take root in the region, active participation and cooperation from local governments are necessary,” adding, “We will establish distinctive and substantial energy-saving plans for each institution so that public institutions can lead by example in improving energy efficiency.”
