"Kia's Highest Ever: 1,575,920 Units Sold in the First Half of the Year"

Kia announced on the 3rd that it recorded its highest-ever first half sales performance since it began selling automobiles in 1962. From January to June 2023, it sold 292,103 units domestically, 1,281,067 units overseas, and 2,750 special vehicles, totaling 1,575,920 units. This represents an 11% increase compared to the first half of last year. Domestic sales increased by 11.5%, and overseas sales by 10.8%. This figure is 29,070 units more than the previous highest sales record of 1,546,850 units in 2014.
This record performance was driven by sports utility vehicles (SUVs). The top three best-selling Kia vehicles worldwide in the first half of this year are all SUVs. The Sportage (260,485 units) ranked first, followed by the Seltos (157,188 units) and the Sorento (115,644 units).
Domestic sales in the first half also reached an all-time high. The previous highest domestic sales were 278,384 units in the first half of 2021. The best-selling vehicle domestically was the Carnival with 39,350 units. The Sorento (36,558 units) and Sportage (36,084 units) ranked second and third respectively. The Bongo III (34,325 units), Seltos (26,944 units), K8 (25,155 units), and Ray (25,114 units) followed.
Overseas sales set new first half records in the United States, Europe, and India, with 415,708 units, 318,753 units, and 136,108 units sold respectively. The Sportage was the best-selling overseas model with 224,401 units. The Seltos recorded 130,244 units, and the K3 sold 100,781 units, ranking second and third.
Meanwhile, in June, Kia sold 51,002 units domestically, 226,631 units overseas, and 623 special vehicles, totaling 278,256 units. Compared to the same period last year, this represents a 13.3% increase domestically and a 5.8% increase overseas.
The Sportage was the top-selling model overall with 49,869 units. The Seltos sold 25,028 units, and the Sorento 21,380 units. The domestic number one was the Sorento (6,978 units), and the overseas number one was the Sportage (43,451 units).

A Kia official stated, “We have set a historic record for the highest first half sales performance since the company’s founding, which reflects the high competitiveness of Kia in the global market,” adding, “With the launch of the new EV9, we expect the brand value to be further strengthened.”
