Mid-sized Industry to Expand Youth Hiring by 10% Over Next 5 Years

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Minister Lee Chang-yang) announced on the 3rd that it held the '2023 Mid-sized Enterprises Job Fair' at COEX. Now in its 7th year, the job fair is the largest employment event for mid-sized enterprises. This year, 100 outstanding mid-sized companies, a 30% increase from the previous year, operated recruitment booths. About 10,000 young people from home and abroad, including university students, Meister High School graduates, and overseas students participating online, attended, with a record high of approximately 1,000 hires expected.
At the opening ceremony of the fair, the mid-sized enterprise sector announced a plan to create 1.5 million jobs over the next five years, including expanding youth recruitment to 200,000 annually (a 10% increase from the current level). The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Employment and Labor signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to provide cross-ministerial support for the entire process of creating, securing, and maintaining quality jobs in the mid-sized enterprise sector.

Minister Lee Chang-yang of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said, "We expect mid-sized enterprises, which are a representative source of quality youth jobs, to create more youth employment through bold investment and creativity and innovation." He added, "The government will also strengthen support to enhance the global competitiveness of mid-sized enterprises through technological innovation and export expansion, as well as to increase employment." The Ministry plans to expand the 'Mid-sized Enterprises Job Fair,' currently held once a year, to twice a year starting next year.
