Mayor Seogangseok: “In the 2nd Year of the 8th Elected Term, We Will Continue ‘Administration Serving Residents as the Owners’ to Lead Change”
On June 30, one day before his 1st anniversary in office, Seogangseok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, visited key project sites to meticulously check the progress of campaign promises and listen attentively to voices from the field, continuing his administration that serves residents as the true owners.
Earlier, on June 27, Mayor Seo visited Hwahoe Village in Jangji-dong and three local rainwater pumping stations, which suffered damage from last year’s heavy rains, to conduct on-site inspections in preparation for the upcoming monsoon season that begins in earnest this month, marking his 1st anniversary.
On this day, Mayor Seo first revisited the Jinju Apartment reconstruction site to check the progress of construction. The site had been halted for a while due to cultural heritage excavation work but resumed last year thanks to Songpa-gu’s proactive administration. A resident met on-site expressed gratitude, saying, “Thanks to Songpa-gu’s mediation, the cultural heritage relocation and preservation process, which usually takes over 10 months, was exceptionally completed in just 4 months.”
In response, Mayor Seo emphasized Songpa-gu’s proactive administration, stating, “The Jamsil Jinju Apartment reconstruction project is a large-scale development with 2,678 households waiting to move in. Our district will spare no administrative support until the project is completed.” He then urged the site managers and public officials, “The two most important essentials when building houses are energy saving and inter-floor noise issues. These must be carefully considered from the start of construction. Please look for areas to improve as we move toward making Songpa a premium residential city, and always prioritize safety.”
Next, he visited the Wirye Line tram and Wirye Lake Park sites, long-awaited projects by Wirye residents, to check the construction status. Mayor Seo urged, “Since residents have high expectations for Wirye Lake Park, we must complete the remaining construction process without any setbacks,” and did not forget to check the timing for filling the lake with water, which residents are most curious about. He received a report from the tram construction official that by the end of November, the lake construction would not be affected. Additionally, he carefully ensured ‘resident safety’ by requesting strengthened patrols and inspections so that heavy rains during construction would not cause any problems to the lake.
He then visited the Jamsil Girls' High School commuting route pedestrian environment improvement site. While inspecting the site, which is 70% complete, Mayor Seo noticed students sharing the road and sidewalk on their way home and ordered improvement plans prioritizing ‘student safety.’ He emphasized, “The road in front of Jamsil Girls' High School is a commuting route for students, so a clear distinction between sidewalks and roads is necessary,” urging active consultation with the school and related departments to supplement the construction in a way that maximizes prevention of safety accidents.
Besides these, despite the heatwave advisory in effect, Mayor Seo visited various local areas to check on residents requiring social consideration, such as the disabled, elderly living alone, and out-of-school youth. Especially, the youth and elderly who met Mayor Seo that day expressed their gratitude, saying, “We appreciate the careful consideration of even small inconveniences of residents and the continuous increase in essential support for daily life.”
Regarding this, Mayor Seogangseok promised to devote more effort to creating an inclusive city of Songpa where no one is left behind, one of the six major goals of the 8th elected term.
