Sacheon-si Surpasses 100 Million Won in Hometown Love Donation Program... This Year's Goal is 200 Million Won
Sacheon City in Gyeongnam surpassed 100 million won in hometown love donations just six months after implementing the program.
The number of participants in the Hometown Love Donation Program reached 852, with donations ranging from small amounts of 100 won to a maximum of 5 million won. Among them, Moon Wi-kyung, originally from Gonmyeong-myeon and residing in Seoul, was selected as a model case for practicing a small donation culture in daily life by donating 5,900 won 24 times.
On average, about 140 people participate each month, with most donations around 100,000 won, mainly from expatriates in their 40s and 50s.
There are 16 high-value donors who contributed more than 1 million won, totaling 42 million won. These donors include entrepreneurs from Sacheon, city ambassadors, professors, and heads of hometown associations. To express gratitude and foster participation in the Hometown Love Donation Program, the city operates a ‘Hall of Fame’ section on the Sacheon City website and promotes the program through SNS, the Sacheon newsletter
In February this year, to spread the donation culture, the mayor and senior officials took the lead by donating to sister cities and visiting related organizations and various event venues to promote the donation system. These hands-on efforts are accelerating progress toward the year-end goal of reaching 200 million won.
Mayor Park Dong-sik said, “We thank all donors who supported and showed love for Sacheon through the Hometown Love Donation Program. The precious donations will be used for fund projects aimed at improving residents’ welfare and the development of Sacheon City.” He added, “We will make further efforts to activate the Hometown Love Donation Program to achieve this year’s target amount. We ask for continued interest in Sacheon City’s Hometown Love Donation Program.”
Meanwhile, the Hometown Love Donation Program allows individuals to donate up to 5 million won to local governments other than their registered address and receive tax deductions and return gifts (up to 30% of the donation amount).
