It is a comeback drama for the ‘sister golfers’ Ko Ji-woo.
On the 2nd, at the final 3rd round of the KLPGA Tour McCol·Mona Yongpyong Open (total prize money 800 million KRW) held at Birch Hill Country Club in Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon Province (par 72, 6,435 yards), she shot 7 under par to secure a 3-stroke victory (14 under par, 202 strokes). Starting from 6th place, 4 strokes behind, Ko Ji-woo collected 1 eagle and 6 birdies (with 1 bogey). After birdies on holes 1, 3, and 4, she took a brief breather with a bogey on the 5th hole (par 4), then fired a birdie on the 8th hole and an exciting eagle on the 10th hole (both par 5s) with a ‘2-on 2-putt’. Ko Ji-woo then dominated the top of the leaderboard with ‘stepping stone birdies’ on holes 13 and 15, and secured her victory by parring the remaining three holes.
Ko Ji-woo is a ‘sister golfer’ competing on the KLPGA Tour alongside her younger sister Ko Ji-won. A former national team reserve, Ko Ji-woo ranked 2nd in rookie points on the KLPGA Tour last year. Behind her charming smile lies powerful long drives and aggressive play, earning her the nickname ‘Birdie Bomber’. After finishing 2nd at the Nexen·Saintnine Masters in April and entering the top 10 three times this year, she finally collected her first winner’s trophy.
