LG Electronics Unveils Kiosk Enhancing Information Accessibility for Digitally Vulnerable Groups
Development of Dedicated UX for Korea Electronic Finance
LG Electronics announced on the 2nd that it will introduce a new kiosk product that improves information accessibility for digitally vulnerable groups. This product (model name: 27KC3PJ) is characterized by enabling users with disabilities and the elderly to use services or products without discomfort caused by physical or cognitive limitations such as visual or auditory impairments.
To achieve this, LG Electronics developed a Korea-specific user experience (UX) in collaboration with unmanned solution provider Korea Electronic Finance. It includes a 'Low Vision Mode' that displays large fonts and clear screens, as well as a 'Low Posture Mode' that places main menus at the bottom of the screen for users who use wheelchairs or have short stature.
Starting in the second half of the year, LG plans to install kiosks supporting a 'Voice Menu Guidance Mode' using tactile keypads in domestic franchise stores. By utilizing tactile keypads, totally blind (Jeonmang) users who cannot perceive any light can place orders and make payments by pressing the keypad arrow keys following the voice menu guidance.

Equipped with self-ordering and payment solutions, the LG kiosk features a 27-inch (approximately 68 cm diagonal) touchscreen, unlike the existing 22-inch or 24-inch kiosks, offering higher visibility (the property of shapes or colors being easily noticeable). It also provides excellent touch sensitivity and response speed. It operates without a separate PC connection by applying the Microsoft (MS) Embedded dedicated operating system (OS).
Baek Gi-moon, Executive Vice President and Head of LG Electronics’ ID Business Division, said, "LG Electronics is promoting the 'Accessibility Feature Integration' as an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategic task across all product lines," adding, "We will continue to strive so that more customers can use LG kiosks without difficulty."
LG Electronics and Korea Electronic Finance have been working together to enhance kiosk information accessibility since before the revision of the Enforcement Decree of the Act on Prohibition of Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities in January. A key example is receiving excellent evaluations in the 'Accessibility Compliance Priority Purchase Verification Accessibility Assessment' conducted by the Korea Accessibility Evaluation Institute, a testing and evaluation organization designated by the National Information Society Agency (NIA).

Subsequently, through the final verification review by the Ministry of Science and ICT, they obtained the 'Priority Purchase Target Intelligent Information Product Verification Certificate' in the kiosk category. This is the first-ever achievement in the kiosk industry. Products with this certificate are prioritized for purchase by government agencies and others. Last year, they also conducted technical and user diagnostic evaluations on a total of 77 items in two rounds with an external consulting organization.
