The Department of Photography at Kyungsung University held the 'Life Photo Project' photo exhibition on the 15th at Kyungsung University’s First Art Museum.

This photo exhibition was one of the result presentations for the service-learning course offered by the Kyungsung University Office of Academic Affairs and the Center for Teaching and Learning. Nine students enrolled in the portrait practical course of the Department of Photography participated to donate their professional knowledge learned in class to the local community.

The 'Life Photo Project' started in 2019 and is now in its fifth year, with various activities conducted annually in collaboration with the Nam-gu Senior Welfare Center.

During the last semester, the students conducted one-on-one photography lessons every week for the elderly at the Nam-gu Senior Welfare Center and accompanied them on photo shoots to help the seniors take their own photographic works.

This photo exhibition showcased four parts: photographic works by the seniors who learned photography techniques and theory from the students, personal photo albums of the seniors taken by the students, black-and-white photographs, and video sections.

Senior participant Kim Seongsuk said, “Although it was a short period, the professor and my partner taught me very well,” adding, “I was very happy to make friends and I want to express my gratitude.”

Since 2018, Kyungsung University has adopted service learning as a regular course to strengthen the university’s capacity for public service.

Through this academic system, students can voluntarily participate in community service, apply the knowledge learned in class directly, and earn service credits.
