Dukamo, Ethiopian Ambassador to Korea, Meets Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk, to Discuss Expanding Exchanges
To discuss the expansion of friendly exchanges between Gyeongbuk Province and Ethiopia, Desi Dalke Dukamo, the Ethiopian Ambassador to Korea, and his delegation paid a courtesy visit to Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, on the 28th.
Ambassador Dukamo, during his tenure as the governor of the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region of Ethiopia in 2015, received Saemaul Undong training at Yeungnam University and has been making efforts to introduce the Saemaul Undong movement to Ethiopia.

View original imageEven after his appointment as ambassador in July 2022, he visited Yeungnam University and was so captivated by the Saemaul Undong movement that he requested the establishment of a Saemaul Studies department within an Ethiopian university.
Governor Lee Cheol-woo expressed gratitude to Ethiopia for its participation in the Korean War and promised to transfer the Saemaul spirit so that it could become a growth engine for Ethiopia. He also discussed ways to strengthen mutual exchange and cooperation between Gyeongbuk and Ethiopia.
From 2010 to 2018, Gyeongbuk Province operated six Saemaul pilot villages in Ethiopia. In 2017, they installed a water supply system in the Kenteri area, providing 150 tons of daily potable water, fostering a special relationship.
Desi Dalke Dukamo, Ethiopian Ambassador, introduced Ethiopia as "a country with great growth potential, being the political, economic, and diplomatic hub of East Africa where the African Union (AU) headquarters is located, and having a domestic market of 120 million people," adding, "I hope many companies from Gyeongbuk Province will enter Ethiopia and create opportunities for mutual growth."

Governor Lee Cheol-woo emphasized, "Ethiopia is a grateful country that helped Korea 73 years ago, even sacrificing lives. Now it is our turn to repay that kindness, and we will discover new cooperative projects and expand exchanges in various fields."
