US Presidential Election Hypothetical Matchup: "Trump 44% vs Biden 41%"
Trump Holds Overwhelming Lead in Republican Primary Poll
Former U.S. President Donald Trump, who has officially announced his candidacy for next year's presidential election, is leading President Joe Biden beyond the margin of error in a hypothetical one-on-one matchup, according to a poll.
On the 27th (local time), U.S. polling firm Morning Consult announced the results of a survey conducted from the 23rd to the 25th with over 5,000 voters (margin of error ±1%), showing that in a hypothetical one-on-one matchup, former President Trump received 44% support, while President Biden received 41%.
This is the first time since the firm began polling on the Republican presidential primary last December that former President Trump has led President Biden outside the margin of error.
Ron DeSantis, the Republican Governor of Florida, was shown to be trailing President Biden by 2 percentage points in a one-on-one matchup.
The fact that former President Trump has increased his competitiveness in the general election despite various legal controversies has drawn attention to the potential impact on the upcoming Republican primary.
In a separate poll of Republican presidential primary candidates, former President Trump showed a commanding lead. Trump's support rate was 59%, ahead of Governor DeSantis (19%), Vice President Mike Pence (7%), entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy (6%), and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley (3%).
Meanwhile, former President Trump and Governor DeSantis both campaigned simultaneously in New Hampshire, an early primary state, engaging in a war of words during their rallies. Trump criticized DeSantis for supporting cuts to pensions and Medicare on the grounds of reducing federal spending when he was a congressman. DeSantis pledged to complete the construction of the border wall, a promise Trump was unable to fulfill.
Pro-Trump figure Kevin McCarthy, Speaker of the House, also drew attention by questioning whether former President Trump is the optimal Republican presidential candidate.
