Why Are First-Year MZ Generation College Students Participating in a Calligraphy Exhibition?
Dongmyeong University Doing College, 'The Aesthetics of Calligraphy' Assignment Exhibition
Calligraphy is not exclusive to the elderly but a new horizon opened by the MZ generation!
Dongmyung University (President Jeon Ho-hwan) Do-ing College (Dean Gam Young-hee) held a calligraphy exhibition as a challenge and practice project.
The exhibition for the 2-credit regular course this year, "The Aesthetics of Calligraphy" (supervised by Professor Park Tae-man), was held for three days from the 22nd to the 24th at the Dongmyung Gallery.
In this course for first-year students, freshmen experienced calligraphy "Do-ing (practice)" which they had not had a chance to encounter before, and submitted their assignments.
At the opening ceremony, President Jeon Ho-hwan, Dean Gam Young-hee, enrolled students, and invited external guests gathered to focus their attention on the "masterful calligraphers."

He drew on the idiom meaning that teachers and students grow together by teaching and learning, emphasizing the attitude toward approaching calligraphy.
The students, hearing the professor’s view that the free brushwork not bound by traditional penmanship and the depth of meaning in the selected characters, fitting for the MZ generation, had no limits, also enjoyed a somewhat “awkward” joy.
Professor Park earnestly stated, “I am confident in the potential for development, not the decline, of traditional cultural arts, and regardless of good or bad handwriting, writing that comes from ‘concentration’ must be respected.”
Born in Gijang, Busan, Professor Park, who has won awards at the “Korea Calligraphy Grand Exhibition” and national calligraphy competitions, is a member of the Busan Art Association and an invited artist at national calligraphy competitions. He evaluated, “Although this exhibition replaces exams and assignments, it did not fall behind any other exhibition in terms of quality.”
