Hong Nampyo "Oppose Discharge of Fukushima Contaminated Water Without Scientific and Technological Safety Verification"
Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam, stated on the 26th regarding the claims about Fukushima contaminated water by the Progressive Party Changwon Regional Council, "I oppose the discharge that has not been scientifically and technologically verified as safe."
Mayor Hong also clearly expressed his stance in a recent city council inquiry response, stating, "I oppose the discharge of contaminated water that has not been verified from a scientific and technological perspective." This is the same position as that of Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongnam, who said at the provincial executive meeting on the 12th, "In principle, we oppose the discharge of Fukushima nuclear power plant contaminated water unless safety is guaranteed."
On that day, Mayor Hong emphasized, "Together with the government, we will prioritize reaching a stage beyond food safety to reassurance for citizens, and respond based on scientific grounds to prevent consumption decline, especially for those engaged in the fisheries industry and small merchants in fish markets."
He continued, "The government is currently responding in various ways, and Changwon City is also actively promoting the 'Nuclear Power Plant Contaminated Water Marine Discharge Response Plan.' Since the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is conducting various verifications to publish the final report, we are also monitoring the results," he explained.

Regarding seafood, the National Fishery Products Quality Inspection Service publishes inspection results weekly, so management must be conducted from scientific and technological perspectives to prevent increased anxiety," he stated.
