Sinan 'Island Hydrangea Festival' Concludes Successfully... Over 20,000 Visitors Attended
Fantasy Garden and 10.04 Million Hydrangeas Captivate Tourists' Attention
The ‘Island Hydrangea Festival’ in Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Park Woo-ryang) concluded successfully with over 20,000 visitors.
According to Sinan-gun on the 26th, the Island Hydrangea Festival was held from the 16th to the 25th at Dochodo Hydrangea Garden and the Garden of Fantasy, known as the island of hydrangeas.
Under the theme “The 10.04 Million Hydrangeas Festival by Boat,” a Hydrangea Center was opened to provide visitors with a resting space, and works by famous artists themed around hydrangeas were exhibited in the first-floor exhibition hall.
Dochodo is an island located 54.5 km from Mokpo, and despite inconvenient transportation conditions requiring the use of ships, over 20,000 people enjoyed the hydrangeas.
At the festival site, about 10.04 million hydrangea flowers of over 100 varieties, including Microphylla, Mountain Hydrangea, and Tree Hydrangea, bloomed, offering tourists a diverse display of hydrangea beauty. In particular, it was noted that the active interaction between local residents and tourists as they admired and enjoyed the flowers left a strong impression.
Although the festival has ended, the hydrangeas can be freely viewed until mid-July, and preparations are underway to showcase autumn Tree Hydrangeas and Pampas Grass in September.
Kim Kyung-han, the promotion committee chairman, stated, “The Island Hydrangea Festival plays a significant role in promoting the region’s charm through flowers. We are grateful to everyone who visited during this festival period,” and added, “We hope to see you again at the Island Autumn Hydrangea Festival.”

The Island Hydrangea Festival held on Dochodo, famous as the filming location of the movie Jasan-eobo and selected for the 2023 Korea Tourism Organization’s Small-Scale Potential Tourism Site Development Project, has established itself as Sinan-gun’s representative festival. It was chosen as one of the “Summer Islands You Want to Visit in 2023,” gaining a reputation as a premier tourist destination attracting visitors from all over the country this summer.
