Ulsan 3D Printing Industry Gains Momentum... Consecutive Selections in Government Public Projects
Secured 9 Billion KRW in National Funding for 4 Projects
Ulsan City is gaining momentum in the 3D printing industry as it has been consecutively selected for government public projects.
On the 24th, Ulsan City announced that it has applied for 3D printing industry public projects from the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups in 2023, and so far, four projects have been finally selected.
A total of 9 billion KRW in national funding has been secured for these public projects.
The four newly selected projects this year are ▲3D printing-based specialized workforce training project for nuclear power and energy components ▲mass production process technology development for gas turbine engine fuel supply device parts ▲3D printing-based tooling (jigs, hangers, inspection tools) mass production demonstration project for future mobility manufacturing technology advancement ▲5M-class pallet-type multi-nozzle 3D printing technology development project for application in the shipbuilding industry.
▲The 3D printing-based specialized workforce training project for nuclear power and energy components aims to cultivate innovative talents in the energy technology field to lead the carbon-neutral era and establish a foundation for the energy industry. It will receive 2.375 billion KRW in national funding from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy from 2023 to 2027.
This workforce training project is being conducted by a consortium consisting of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, and Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute.
Through securing advanced manufacturing core technologies based on 3D printing that can be applied in next-generation industrial fields, the project plans to secure next-generation industrial specialized 3D printing talents with competitiveness in the global small modular reactor market and global competitiveness.
▲The mass production process technology development project for gas turbine engine fuel supply device parts is promoted as part of the Ministry of Science and ICT’s ‘2023 3D Printing Manufacturing Innovation Demonstration Support Project.’ It will receive 2.85 billion KRW in national funding over three years.
K-Labs Co., Ltd. has formed a consortium with the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology and others to develop mass production process technology for gas turbine engine fuel supply device parts for 5,500 lbf-class unmanned aerial vehicles.
▲The 3D printing-based tooling mass production demonstration project for advancing future mobility manufacturing technology was also selected for the Ministry of Science and ICT’s ‘2023 3D Printing Manufacturing Innovation Demonstration Support Project,’ with 2.85 billion KRW in national funding over three years.
3D Factory Co., Ltd. is the lead company conducting demonstrations by introducing 3D printing tooling parts into the mobility manufacturing process. The project aims to establish a verification system for 3D printing materials and parts.
▲The 5M-class pallet-type multi-nozzle 3D printing technology development project for application in the shipbuilding industry was selected for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups’ ‘2023 New Product Development Project with Purchase Conditions for SMEs.’ It will receive 1 billion KRW in national funding over two years.
The lead company, Link Solution Co., Ltd., is conducting the project in a consortium with demand companies including Ulsan City and the Ulsan Information Industry Promotion Agency.
The project involves developing 5M-class pallet-type multi-nozzle 3D printing technology and equipment, setting up and testing the equipment within the 3D printing venture cluster knowledge industry center.
It is expected to commercialize products such as large jigs and fittings required in the shipbuilding industry using 3D printing technology and derive business models.
