President Yoon Suk-yeol, who is visiting France and Vietnam, named the three main principles of this tour as hosting the 2030 World Expo, sales, and contribution diplomacy, the Presidential Office announced on the 22nd (local time).
Kim Eun-hye, the Chief Public Relations Officer of the Presidential Office, said at a press room briefing held in Hanoi, Vietnam, in the afternoon, "There are three things President Yoon declared as Korea's first salesperson during this tour," adding, "The first is the solidarity and future of the Busan Expo, the second is investment attraction sales diplomacy, and the third is contribution diplomacy based on freedom and innovation."
Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1991, trade volume between Korea and Vietnam has increased 175 times, and mutual visitors have surged 2300 times. Korea is one of Vietnam's largest investors, with 170,000 Koreans residing in Vietnam and 230,000 Vietnamese living in Korea.
Chief Yoon emphasized, "President Yoon, who began his state visit today, will highlight that although Vietnam is a socialist country with a different system from ours, it respects a rules-based international order and has maintained a predictable, mutually beneficial relationship, making cooperation possibilities limitless," adding, "This visit will further elevate the current comprehensive strategic partnership."
Meanwhile, Kim said that President Yoon emphasized solidarity and contribution at the official reception for the 2030 Busan Expo, the final schedule of his visit to France. Kim said, "At the official reception, he met with representatives from over 400 member countries and diplomats stationed in Paris to promote the bid," adding, "President Yoon appealed for support by meeting each person individually and directly explained the strengths and charm of Busan, the powerhouse of Asia."
He continued, "President Yoon emphasized, 'The Republic of Korea rose from the ruins of war and entered the global market with bare hands without natural resources to reach this point. We have many development experiences we want to share with countries around the world,'" explaining that he conveyed a message of creating an Expo based on solidarity rather than competition.
