Ulsan Office of Education to Establish 30 Green Smart Future Schools
Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education will support schools with specialized strategies and new strategic projects in preparation for this year’s changes in the Ministry of Education’s Green Smart Future School initiative.
The Ulsan Office of Education recently informed all institutions and schools of the “2023 Ulsan-style (Dream·Competence·Solidarity·Coexistence) Green Smart Future School Promotion Plan,” which contains these details.
The Green Smart Future School project involves rebuilding or remodeling schools that are over 40 years old to operate diverse curricula and nurture future talents.
Since starting the project in 2021, the Ulsan Office of Education plans to establish a total of 30 schools by 2025, including 17 elementary schools, 10 middle schools, 2 high schools, and 1 special school.
The 15 target schools from 2021 to 2022 have completed user-participation pre-planning and design and have begun construction. Among these, nine schools?Byeongyeong Elementary, Taehwa Elementary, Nammok Elementary, Hwajin Middle, Hyundai Cheongun Middle, Yaksajung Middle, Hamwol Elementary, Meaari School, and Hakseong Middle?are scheduled to be completed by February 2024.
The remaining six schools?Bangojin Elementary, Onyang Elementary, Cheongnyang Elementary, Jujeon Elementary, Nongsu Middle, and Cheongnyang Middle?are advancing projects targeting completion between 2025 and 2026.
According to this year’s promotion plan, the Ministry of Education’s financial project volume has been reduced by 50%, adjusting the number of schools subject to rebuilding from five to three.
Accordingly, the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education will proceed with Hakseong Elementary, Ulsan Jungang Elementary, and Ulsan Technical High School (BTL) as originally planned, while Gangnam Elementary and Wolpyeong Middle will carry out projects using their own budgets (education environment improvement funds).
The project implementation procedure has also changed to “selection of target schools ? pre-planning including seeking future school vision and specialization plans ? expert institution review of pre-planning appropriateness ? approval by review committee ? confirmation of target schools.” The annual disbursement rate of the Ministry of Education’s project funds has also changed, extending the project period from three to four years starting with this year’s target schools.
For schools targeted in 2024?2025, pre-planning, design, and construction will proceed from the project’s starting year. Resources needed to respond to rising construction costs, environmental improvements, and other safety factors will be promoted using environmental improvement funds.
The Office of Education will promote strategic projects such as “user-participation pre-planning,” “operation of expert support groups,” “policy (working-level) council chaired by the vice superintendent,” and “strengthened field monitoring” to establish a solid Green Smart Future School.
New projects include “organization and operation of a school facility complex regional council” and “operation of the Green Smart School Yeongnam Region Council.”
