Two Police Informants in 'Itaewon Report Deletion' Case Released on Bail
The bail request of a police intelligence officer who was arrested and indicted on charges of ordering the deletion of an internal report related to the Itaewon Halloween festival has been granted.

View original imageAccording to the legal community on the 21st, the Criminal Division 11 of the Seoul Western District Court (Chief Judge Bae Seong-jung) approved the bail request of Park Seong-min, former head of the Public Safety Intelligence and Foreign Affairs Department of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, and Kim Jin-ho, former intelligence officer of the Yongsan Police Station, who are accused of instructing the destruction of public electronic records and evidence tampering.
Conditions for bail approval included submitting a written pledge to appear at trial and not to tamper with evidence, residence restrictions, and payment of a 50 million won deposit. Of the 50 million won deposit, 30 million won can be replaced with a guarantee certificate.

They are accused of ordering the deletion of an intelligence report that anticipated a crowd gathering in Itaewon during Halloween Day and carrying out the order. Park, the former head, is suspected of instructing frontline intelligence officers, including Kim, through messenger on November 2 last year, to delete the intelligence report containing information that a crowd might gather in Itaewon on Halloween Day. Kim is also under investigation for ordering his subordinates to delete the report stored on a work PC.
