Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Opens Applications for 'Excellence in Reading Management Workplace Certification'
Special Forum on the 27th Marking the 10th Anniversary of Implementation
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Management Association Consulting are accepting applications for the 'Excellent Reading Management Workplace Certification in the Republic of Korea' until the 28th of next month. This certificate is awarded to companies and institutions that have fostered a reading-friendly management culture by promoting a culture of reading. Introduced in 2014, 154 organizations have been certified up to last year. According to the 2021 National Reading Survey, employees in workplaces with a reading environment have a reading rate 37.4% higher than those in workplaces without such an environment. Their reading volume is also 2.9 times greater. Kim Dohyung, Director of the Media Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, emphasized, "This means that if companies encourage their employees to read, the reading rate can naturally increase. The role of companies is important in spreading the reading culture."
Application methods and related forms can be found on the Reading Management Excellent Workplace Certification website. After on-site verification by experts and review by a committee, the certified organizations will be announced in October. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will issue certificates in the name of the Minister to the certified companies and institutions and provide reading culture programs such as 'Meetings with Authors' and customized reading management consulting. Sixteen companies and institutions that have exemplarily carried out reading management will receive awards along with book culture gift certificates and certification plaques. Director Kim said, "It is encouraging that participation from small and medium-sized enterprises is increasing," adding, "We hope that through reading-friendly management, communication and creativity among employees will be enhanced, and a culture of learning will be practiced."
