Hanwha Corporation Construction Division Conducts Safety and Health Management Inspection Ahead of Heatwave
Hanwha Corporation's Construction Division announced on the 21st that it conducted safety and health management inspections at all domestic construction sites ahead of the summer heatwave.
This inspection focused primarily on the preparation status of the three key rules emphasized by the Ministry of Employment and Labor for the safety and health management of construction workers during the hot season: water, shade, and rest. It also urged active encouragement of health management activities for construction workers, such as emotional safety activities like "Ice Cream Day" and frequent temperature checks.
Hanwha Corporation's Construction Division designated the period from the 1st of this month to September 15th as the "Special Management Period for Heatwave Disaster Prevention during the Hot Season," aiming to protect the health of workers exposed to heat and prevent heat-related illnesses. This inspection was conducted to verify whether detailed rules and systems were properly implemented at each site.
First, through the water category inspection, it was confirmed whether clean water and saline solution (salt) were provided throughout the sites. Additionally, an ice machine management officer was appointed to thoroughly manage hygiene and prevent heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke.
In the shade category, inspections were carried out to ensure that worker rest areas were placed in safe locations free from risks such as vehicles and falling objects, and to verify that sun protection and ventilation were properly maintained. Furthermore, the division encouraged the sufficient provision of rest facilities such as large fans, air conditioners, chairs, and drinking fountains.
For the rest category, during heatwave advisories, workers were given 10 minutes of rest every hour, and during heatwave warnings, 15 minutes of rest every hour. For vulnerable workers sensitive to heat-related illnesses, outdoor work hours were adjusted accordingly.
Moreover, education on heatstroke prevention was provided to all site workers, including foreign workers, and continuous temperature monitoring and health consultations were conducted to check for any health abnormalities among vulnerable workers. In addition, delicate emotional safety activities conducted at each site, such as Ice Cream Day, provision of ion drinks, and distribution events for personal protective equipment during the hot season (cool scarves, cool arm sleeves, etc.), were actively encouraged.
