Coinone Prevents 21 Cryptocurrency-Related Crimes in the First Half of This Year
Domestic virtual asset exchange Coinone announced on the 20th that it has protected a total of approximately 476 million KRW in customer assets during the first half of this year by preemptively blocking crime attempts targeting virtual assets, such as voice phishing.
Since the beginning of this year, Coinone has prevented a total of 21 virtual asset-related crimes. By type, it prevented 18 cases of investment fraud including romance scams (prevented damage amounting to 152 million KRW) and 3 cases of voice phishing (prevented damage amounting to 324 million KRW). A romance scam is a compound word of 'romance' and 'scam,' referring to a fraud method where the perpetrator approaches victims on social media (SNS) pretending to be a romantic partner and then extorts money.
As the prevention of crimes targeting virtual assets has improved, related customer complaints have significantly decreased. Over the past three months, inquiries related to voice phishing received by the Coinone customer center have decreased by an average of 31% each month since March. During this period, the customer center satisfaction score averaged 89.1 points.
With the increase in crime attempts related to virtual assets, Coinone has been providing guidance on major crime types and prevention measures through its homepage since early this year. Recently, it ranked first in the amount of virtual asset protection information among the top five domestic virtual asset exchanges in the first quarter, according to a survey by the research firm Data & Research.

Jang Seok-won, head of the Coinone User Protection Center, explained, "The significance of this achievement lies not in compensating for damages but in detecting and blocking crime attempts in advance. Although voice phishing attempts have decreased due to increased surveillance by investigative agencies, investment frauds such as romance scams are actually increasing. We will continue to do our best to protect investors."
