Korean Island Promotion Agency and Rural Development Corporation Unite for Island and Rural Advancement
The Korea Island Development Institute (KIDI, President Odongho) and the Korea Rural Community Corporation (President Lee Byungho) have joined hands to revitalize island villages and rural fishing communities.
On the 19th, KIDI announced that it signed a business agreement with the Korea Rural Community Corporation at the latter's headquarters to unite their efforts for island development.
The signing ceremony was attended by 16 officials from both organizations, including KIDI President Odongho, Director of Exchange and Cooperation Yang Younghwan, Head of Promotion Project Team Lee Taegyeom, Korea Rural Community Corporation President Lee Byungho, Director Song Seongil, and Director of Rural Space Development Lee Heeok.
Our country, the "Dadohae" (Korean Archipelago), has unique geographical characteristics, and its islands possess natural beauty along with distinctive cultures and ways of life. However, life on the islands also comes with unique challenges and limitations.
Accordingly, KIDI and the Korea Rural Community Corporation plan to strengthen cooperation to improve the quality of life for island residents.
The main contents of the agreement include ▲ creating a barrier-free living environment in island areas ▲ improving residential conditions and expanding living services considering the spatial characteristics of islands ▲ enhancing public participation measures such as promotion for island area revitalization.
Creating a barrier-free living environment is considered a crucial factor in improving accessibility for island residents in their mobility and daily lives.
Both organizations will focus on removing obstacles and enhancing walking convenience in public spaces, walkways, and key facilities within the islands to create an environment where island residents can move and engage freely.
Through this, they aim to respond to the islands' locations and rapid super-aging population by supporting stable living and livelihood environments for island residents, ultimately contributing to creating islands where anyone would want to live.
Going forward, KIDI and the Korea Rural Community Corporation plan to improve the residential environment of island residents through various means, including building living infrastructure.
