The ‘2023 Pohang City Eco-friendly Agriculture Promotion Workshop’ for the preservation of a sustainable agricultural environment and the safe production and supply of agricultural products was held on the 15th at the Pohang City Agricultural Education Welfare Center.

View original imageThis workshop was sponsored by Pohang City and organized by the Gyeongbuk Eco-friendly Agriculture Pohang City Association. About 400 participants, including Lee Sang-cheol, Political Affairs Special Advisor of Pohang City, city and provincial council members, heads of related agricultural organizations, and eco-friendly farmers, attended the event, which featured awards for contributors to the development of eco-friendly agriculture, exhibitions of eco-friendly agricultural machinery and materials, and eco-friendly agriculture education.
Especially, as a special lecture at this event, Kang Yong, President of the Korea Eco-friendly Agriculture Association, gave a talk on ‘Understanding the Social Value and Meaning of Eco-friendly Agriculture,’ and Choi Se-young, Director of the Agricultural Counseling Center, provided education on ‘Soil Management Techniques for Eco-friendly Agriculture,’ receiving great responses from the attending farmers.
Baek Young-heung, President of the Gyeongbuk Eco-friendly Agriculture Pohang City Association, said, “We expect eco-friendly agriculture in the Pohang area to expand and spread further through this workshop.”
Pohang City ranks third in Gyeongbuk Province in terms of eco-friendly agricultural product production area and is actively providing various supports in production, distribution, and promotion fields to foster eco-friendly agriculture, including being the first in the province to offer farmers production incentives of 500,000 to 700,000 KRW per hectare based on pesticide-free standards.

Furthermore, the eco-friendly agricultural product support project for pregnant women was at risk of suspension this year due to cuts in the national budget, but the city is making multifaceted efforts to expand sales channels by supporting 600 pregnant women with eco-friendly agricultural products worth approximately 480,000 KRW annually using its own budget.
