People Power Party's Hwang Bo-seung-hee on Illegal Fund Allegations: "I am a Victim of Domestic Violence"
"Illegal Political Fund List Submitted to Police by Ex-Husband"
Hwang Bo-seung-hee, a member of the People Power Party representing Busan Jung-Yeongdo, who is suspected of receiving illegal political funds, stated on the 15th that "the related allegations are the one-sided claims of my ex-husband, and I am a victim of domestic violence."
On the 15th, Representative Hwang posted on her Facebook, "I am a victim of domestic violence," along with several photos showing a bleeding face and bruised forearms.
Representative Hwang said, "My ex-husband started with verbal fights a few months after our second daughter was born, swept the dining table, and strangled me," adding, "He threw our child, who was not even a year old, onto the bed to discipline her, hit her buttocks with bamboo causing bruises, and I was also beaten when I tried to intervene."
She continued, "After I became a member of the National Assembly and courageously suggested a divorce, the violence, verbal abuse, and threats worsened," and claimed, "He threw a fan at my 70-year-old mother, punched her causing bruises all over her body, and destroyed my parents' house."
Representative Hwang said that after their consensual divorce in 2021, her ex-husband has continued personal retaliation, stating, "The police have been investigating for over a year based solely on my ex-husband's one-sided claims," and "Even the Democratic Party has joined in, threatening to file an ethics complaint based on the one-sided claim of nomination bribes."
She added, "Politics is truly frightening," and pleaded, "Please help me escape this endless cycle of harassment."
Meanwhile, the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency has been investigating allegations that Representative Hwang received money from district and city council members in her constituency in exchange for nominations ahead of the local elections, following a complaint from a civic group in April last year.
According to the Busan Police Station on the 15th, the police recently summoned Representative Hwang's ex-husband as a witness for questioning.
On that day, the ex-husband submitted to the police a photographed list believed to record the names and amounts of money given to Representative Hwang during the election. The list reportedly included the names of about 60 local politicians and numbers such as '70,000' and '5,000.'
