Yeongyang-gun Resumes Local Students' Language Study Abroad in the U.S. After 3 Years

Yeongyang County, Gyeongbuk, held a meeting on the 14th in the Seoul area with officials from the Tucson Unified School District in Arizona, USA (Deputy Superintendent Kina Brown), who visited Korea, to resume the local language training in the United States that had been temporarily suspended due to COVID-19.

View original imageAt the meeting, Yeongyang County Governor O Do-chang, the Tucson delegation visiting Korea, and Nam Han-kwon, Governor of Ulleung County, attended and held in-depth discussions regarding the number of trainees, training schedules, and programs related to the 2024 language training.
As a result of the meeting, the county decided to select 15 language training students, expanding from the last local language training group of 10 people in January 2020, and plans to increase the number of participants in the future. The selected students will have the opportunity to participate in language training by staying with local host families in the United States for 3 to 4 weeks around January 2024.
Yeongyang County and the Tucson Unified School District in Arizona signed an international exchange agreement in 2015, providing over 120 students with opportunities to broaden their international perspectives. During the COVID-19 period, exchanges were conducted through online English learning as a substitute.

Governor O Do-chang said, “Although there were long difficulties due to COVID-19, I am very pleased to resume local language training like this, and I hope it will be a valuable opportunity for local students to experience a wider world.
