Damyang-gun, Full Effort to Collect Local Tax Arrears
Special Settlement Period for Reducing February Delinquent Payments Operation
Damyang County has designated the period until September 30 as the "Special Collection Period for Reducing Carried-Over Delinquent Payments" and is making every effort to collect delinquent payments to expand its own revenue sources.
On the 13th, Damyang County in Jeollanam-do announced that it recently held a local tax delinquent payment management strategy meeting chaired by the head of the Finance Department, attended by about 20 people including tax and civil service team leaders from towns and townships, to discuss measures to minimize delinquent payments.
Local taxes are one of the important independent revenue sources for local governments.
The county plans to strongly collect from habitual delinquent taxpayers who deliberately evade payment by using all means permitted by law, and actively encourage payment of small delinquent amounts such as resident tax and property tax.
To exceed the special collection target of 1.27 billion won, the county will operate the special collection period for reducing carried-over delinquent payments.
To this end, dedicated personnel for local tax delinquents will be assigned to each town and township to focus on collecting delinquent payments through effective investigations and focused management of delinquents.
In particular, in June, a vehicle license plate seizure team will be intensively operated targeting high-amount and habitual delinquents, and nighttime and weekend seizure activities will also be promoted.
However, this year, due to rapid interest rate hikes to curb inflation, many taxpayers have lost their ability to pay, so customized measures will be implemented to ease the burden, such as deferring delinquent dispositions for livelihood-related delinquents.

A county official said, “While providing support to delinquent taxpayers who are struggling in their daily lives to help them recover economically, we will carry out systematic and intensive collection activities with the belief that delinquent taxes from deliberate high-amount and habitual delinquents must be collected.”
