Japanese Global Company 'Ibiden' Holds Completion Ceremony for Artificial Graphite Plant Expansion in Pohang
470 Billion Won Investment to Increase Production Volume
Gyeongbuk Province announced that Ibiden Graphite Korea held a completion ceremony on the 13th for the expansion of the artificial graphite (graphite) production process at the Pohang Yeongilman 1 Industrial Complex, Pohang Foreign Investment Zone, and plans to begin full-scale mass production.
At the completion ceremony, more than 60 people attended, including Norihiko Yamamura, Head of the Ceramic Business Division at Ibiden Headquarters, Jaehyun Seo, CEO of Ibiden Graphite Korea, Nam-il Kim, Vice Mayor of Pohang, Jungha Hwang, Director of Investment Attraction Office of Gyeongbuk Province, and representatives from OCI, SK Siltron, and others.

View original imageIbiden Graphite Korea signed an MOU with Gyeongbuk Province and Pohang City in November 2018 and established an integrated artificial graphite production line with an annual production capacity of 2,160 tons in 2020. By June this year, it invested a total of 47 billion KRW to expand the annual production capacity to 4,320 tons.
Ibiden, headquartered in Gifu Prefecture, Japan, was established in 1912 and has focused on ceramics and electronics-related businesses. It produces special carbon (graphite), automotive exhaust parts, electronic component substrates, and printed circuit boards.
With annual sales of approximately 3.71 trillion KRW, it is a global company with 19 production bases overseas, including the United States, and is a mid-sized Japanese company that continues to innovate technologically.

Jungha Hwang, Director of the Investment Attraction Office of Gyeongbuk Province, stated, “This completion ceremony is significant as the investment atmosphere from Japan to Korea is gradually improving, and the Japanese Ibiden Group, a semiconductor parts and materials company, has expanded the production capacity of its Korean subsidiary’s factory. Going forward, Gyeongbuk Province will support foreign-invested companies in the materials, parts, and equipment sector to continuously grow in both domestic and global markets.”
