Major Jang began donating blood in 1998 when he was a high school student to help a junior who had leukemia, and he has consistently donated blood for 25 years. He surpassed 100 donations in 2005, 200 donations in 2010, and 300 donations in 2017.
He donated his blood donation certificates to the military and society. In 2007, he donated to the Incheon Office of Education to help a student suffering from a severe illness; in 2010, he donated to the military to aid a Marine comrade injured during the Yeonpyeong Island shelling; and in 2017, he generously donated 100 blood donation certificates to Busan National University Hospital for pediatric cancer patients.
Major Jang Jin-hwan said, "When I first donated blood, I vowed to live a life of service to society," adding, "I will not forget this and will continue to dedicate myself to the nation as a soldier, as well as live a life of service and sharing in various fields."
Sergeant Kang Dae-seung of the Navy 3rd Fleet Command set his 300th blood donation record on the same day and received the 'Supreme Honorary Medal' from the Korean Red Cross. The Korean Red Cross awards donors with a 'Silver Medal' at 30 donations, a 'Gold Medal' at 50, an 'Honor Medal' at 100, an 'Honorary Medal' at 200, and a 'Supreme Honorary Medal' at 300 donations.
Sergeant Kang began donating blood in 1996 during high school after seeing an advertisement about a shortage of blood for emergency patients. Upon commissioning as a non-commissioned officer, he actively participated in blood donation, believing it to be "the greatest contribution a soldier can make to save lives."
Sergeant Kim Han-jun, serving at the Navy Logistics Command, will receive a commendation from the Mayor of Changwon on the 14th for his consistent blood donation activities. Sergeant Kim has donated blood 256 times to date.
He started donating blood in 1996 during high school at a friend's recommendation and has been captivated by the fact that he can practice love for his neighbors with just a short amount of time, continuing his blood donations for 27 years.
