"Twitter CEO Repeats Statements Made by Musk" First Remarks Criticized
Linda Yaccarino's First Public Remarks as CEO
"There Must Be Freedom to Speak," Reaffirms Musk's Policy
No Mention of Business Strategy or Hate Speech Response
Linda Yaccarino, the new CEO of Twitter, outlined her management policy on Twitter for the first time since taking office.
On the 12th (local time), CEO Yaccarino mentioned Elon Musk, Tesla CEO and former Twitter CEO, on her Twitter account, saying, "People keep asking me 'Why Twitter?' so I will answer."
She said, "Elon recognized the need for change in space exploration and electric vehicles and put it into action," adding, "It is becoming clear that the Global Town Square also needs change to advance civilization through unfiltered information exchange and open dialogue about what matters most to us."
She emphasized, "Have you ever thought that you should have the freedom to speak your mind while talking with someone insightful? We all should have that freedom."
CEO Yaccarino explained, "Twitter stands on a mission to be the world's most accurate source of real-time information and a Global Town Square for communication," adding, "This is not an empty promise but Twitter's reality."
She added, "When you start with such a powerful vision, literally anything is possible," and "You have to truly believe and work hard for that belief."
In response, foreign media such as CNBC in the U.S. evaluated that 'freedom of expression' was something Musk had emphasized all along, so Yaccarino was merely repeating Musk's words.
It was also reported that Yaccarino's post on that day did not mention Twitter's new business strategies or address the various problems Twitter currently faces, leaving some disappointment.
Since Musk acquired Twitter in October last year, challenges that CEO Yaccarino must solve have piled up, including an increase in hate speech on Twitter, mass advertiser departures, and frequent technical glitches due to large-scale layoffs.
