LGU+ Appoints Hong Gwanhee, Former Coupang CPO, as Chief Security Officer
LG Uplus announced on the 13th that it has appointed cybersecurity expert Hong Kwanhee, former Chief Privacy Officer (CPO) of Coupang, as its new Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).
New CISO Hong is a hands-on expert who has built information security and personal data management systems across various industries including telecommunications, finance, retail, and gaming for 25 years. He has served as a senior researcher at the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), head of information security at Nexon, CISO at Samsung Card, and CPO at Coupang.
In February, LG Uplus announced a 'Cyber Safety Innovation Plan' to restore customer trust, expanding its information security investment to around 100 billion KRW and declaring its intention to recruit security experts such as company-wide information security officers and personal data protection officers.
New CISO Hong said, "I feel a heavy responsibility joining LG Uplus, which is investing heavily and showing great interest in strengthening its cybersecurity capabilities. Beyond enhancing the security of telecommunication services, I will strive to make LG Uplus a 'top-tier company' equipped with an advanced cybersecurity system."
LG Uplus also plans to actively foster security professionals. Last month, it partnered with Soongsil University to establish a contract department for the 'Department of Information Security' to nurture national security talent, with plans to recruit freshmen starting this year.
