Yoon Sang-hyun "Korea-China Should Hold Strategic Dialogue... Also Promoting Dialogue at the National Assembly Level"
As relations between South Korea and China have frozen following Ambassador Xing Haiming's remark that "those who bet on China's defeat will regret it," Yoon Sang-hyun, a member of the People Power Party and former chairman of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, raised his voice, saying, "South Korea and China must quickly engage in strategic dialogue" and emphasized the need to resolve the situation through dialogue.
On the 12th, Yoon said through his social media (SNS), "The severely blocked South Korea-China relationship can no longer be neglected," expressing this view.
Ambassador Xing Haiming was summoned by our Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and in response, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs 'reciprocally summoned' our ambassador to China, escalating tensions between the two countries. Yoon stated, "We must immediately engage in dialogue to remove the deeply entrenched walls of misunderstanding and distrust between the two countries," adding, "Efforts are needed to build consensus on denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula to reestablish the cooled South Korea-China relationship and to narrow the differences between South Korea and China regarding North Korea's nuclear and missile issues."
He further said, "The government should clearly explain that we are not excluding China but are responding to North Korea's increasing nuclear and missile threats and working for stability and peace on the Korean Peninsula through the South Korea-U.S. alliance and South Korea-U.S.-Japan cooperation, while seeking balance and solutions between South Korea and China." He also urged, "China should stop provocative and inflammatory remarks and consider South Korea's position on North Korea's nuclear and missile issues as a permanent member of the UN Security Council," emphasizing that both countries need to reduce their perception gaps.

He also proposed dialogue at the National Assembly level. Yoon said, "Dialogue between South Korea and China should be promoted not only at the government level but also at the National Assembly level simultaneously," adding, "The government should prepare substantive talks with China centered on the National Security Office, and the National Assembly should engage in dialogue through the Korea-China Parliamentary Diplomacy Forum, regular exchanges between the Korea-China parliaments, and the Korea-China Parliamentary League."
