Ulsan City Increases 1st Term Automobile Tax... 34.9 Billion Won Levied
Use of Financial Institutions, Account Transfers, Wetax, and Automated Response Systems
In Ulsan, it was reported that 3.49 billion KRW was levied on 351,022 cases for the first installment of automobile tax in June this year.
The automobile tax is imposed twice a year in June and December on vehicle owners. The target for the first installment of automobile tax this June includes automobiles, construction machinery, motorcycles, etc., registered in Ulsan as of the tax base date, June 1.
However, vehicles that paid the automobile tax in a lump sum in January and March, as well as vehicles eligible for exemptions such as those owned by persons with disabilities and national merit recipients, are excluded from taxation.
This first installment of automobile tax increased by 900 million KRW compared to June last year. This is due to the increase in the number of registered vehicles in Ulsan at the tax base date, rising from 583,904 vehicles last year to 594,515 vehicles this year, an increase of 10,611 vehicles (1.8%).
The scale of automobile tax levied by district and county is as follows: ▲ Jung-gu 62,528 cases 6.2 billion KRW ▲ Nam-gu 92,822 cases 9.4 billion KRW ▲ Dong-gu 35,849 cases 3.7 billion KRW ▲ Buk-gu 70,904 cases 7.3 billion KRW ▲ Ulju-gun 88,919 cases 8.3 billion KRW.
The payment deadline is from June 16 to June 30. By applying for local tax payment services using the ‘Smart WETAX’ app on smartphones, various financial institution apps, KakaoPay, NaverPay, and other simple payment apps, payment details can be received quickly.
If the payment deadline is missed, an additional 3% surcharge will be imposed, and disadvantages such as vehicle license plate seizure may occur.

An official from Ulsan City encouraged early payment, stating, “If you pay the second installment of automobile tax by June 30, you can receive a 3.5% discount on the annual tax amount.”
