Gwanak-gu Distributes Dedicated Recycling Bags to Increase Recycling Sorting Rate
On March, 69,000 households received the first distribution, with the recycling sorting rate rising to 64.6%
Second distribution to be conducted from June to July, providing 70 bags per household for single-family and multi-family homes
Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Junhee) is increasing the recycling sorting rate and creating cleaner streets through the dedicated recycling bag project.
The district is the only autonomous district in Seoul producing three types of dedicated recycling bags (transparent PET bottles, vinyl, cans · bottles · plastics · paper, etc.) and distributing them to single-family and multi-family homes to strengthen separate disposal of recyclable waste.
In March, 30 dedicated recycling bags were distributed to 69,000 single-family and multi-family households in the area. As a result, the recycling sorting rate in April rose by 3.9% compared to the first quarter, reaching 64.6%, and the street aesthetics also improved.
Additionally, high-quality recyclable transparent PET bottles and vinyl were well contained in the dedicated bags, making the sorting and processing of collected recyclable waste much easier.
Accordingly, the district plans to conduct a second distribution of dedicated recycling bags, providing 70 bags per household from June to July.
The dedicated recycling bags will be distributed to each household by the district without any separate application process. The district expects that through this additional distribution, the use of dedicated recycling bags will become established, leading to a greater effect in separate disposal of recyclables.
For one-room and multi-unit housing, which are not eligible for the dedicated recycling bag distribution, the district accepts applications for and supplies separate recycling collection bins. From January to May this year, the district supplied 448 bins, equivalent to the amount distributed in 2022, receiving great response from residents.
