The Semiconductor Materials, Components, and Equipment Innovation Convergence University Project Group is led by Sungkyunkwan University as the host university, with participation from Gyeongsang National University (Gyeongnam), Dankook University (Capital area), Jeonbuk National University (Jeonbuk), and Yeungjin College (Gyeongbuk). The metropolitan local government involved is Jeollabuk-do. Gyeongsang National University’s project is led by the Department of Electrical Engineering. Participating departments include the Department of Electronic Engineering, Department of Semiconductor Engineering, Division of Convergence Electronic Engineering, and Department of Physics.

The consortium project group including Gyeongsang National University will receive a total of 40.8 billion KRW in funding over four years to promote joint curriculum development and operation, flexible faculty and academic systems, and corporate participation projects (WE-MEET).

Students belonging to the project group will be able to complete small-unit majors (Micro/Nano degrees), convergence platform (student-designed) majors/minors, and convergence-linked double major curricula according to course levels regardless of their major. Through this, the project group plans to train more than 2,000 semiconductor materials, components, and equipment specialists annually.

Professor Kim Jeong-sik, head of the Gyeongsang National University project group, said, “By leveraging the strengths of semiconductor materials, components, and equipment across the five campuses, we will carry out the government’s policy of nurturing semiconductor specialists and cultivate talent needed in the semiconductor industry field.” He added, “As a large-scale education project for semiconductor specialists, the Innovation Convergence University project is expected to improve both the quality and quantity of semiconductor education at Gyeongsang National University.”
