The Jumbo Dosirak Grows Bigger and More Fun, Sold Out Instantly
Initial Stock Sold Out in One Day
Over 8 Times Larger Capacity Than Existing Products
Consumer Response Emphasizing Fun Elicited
GS25's private brand (PB) cup noodle 'Jumbo Dosirak' has become a hot topic as it sold out instantly upon release. Its overwhelming capacity, breaking the conventional notion of cup noodles, is attracting young consumers who value fun and novelty.
According to GS25 on the 11th, the Jumbo Dosirak, released on the 31st of last month, sold out its initial stock of about 50,000 units on the 1st, when full-scale sales began.
Jumbo Dosirak is a product planned by GS25 with a counterintuitive idea that breaks the existing product formula of cup noodles being a single serving. It was created through an intellectual property (IP) contract with Paldo, the manufacturer of the existing cup noodle 'Dosirak.' The capacity is 648g, more than 8.5 times that of the existing Paldo Dosirak (75g), and the container size measures 27.8cm by 33.5cm, similar to a newspaper folded in half. Due to its larger size, it contains 8 noodle blocks, and 3 packets of powdered soup and 2 packets of flakes each.
Although the selling price is as high as 8,500 won, which is expensive for noodles, its overwhelming size has made it a hot topic online as well. Mukbang content is being created mainly by influencers, and on social media (SNS), various forms of consumption are seen, such as posting purchase verification photos with the face-sized soup packet included with the product. GS25 plans to continue the buzz by collaborating with famous YouTubers to produce mukbang content featuring Jumbo Dosirak.
Lee Jin-woo, GS25's ramen MD, said, "We came up with the counterintuitive idea of a large-capacity cup noodle inspired by the fact that various mukbang content featuring noodles mainly use bagged noodles. Since its release, many mukbang contents featuring Jumbo Dosirak have been produced, exceeding our expectations." GS25 plans to secure and supply a second batch soon as additional orders are flooding in from franchise stores.

The popularity of products like Jumbo Dosirak, which are variations of existing products, is also seen as a reflection of the recent young generation's values that emphasize everyday fun and diverse experiences. Lee Young-ae, a professor in the Department of Consumer Studies at Incheon National University, said, "As social volatility decreases, young generations tend to focus on and enjoy small but happiness-giving things in daily life, like large-capacity cup noodles, rather than strictly suppressing current desires and consumption for a grand future." She explained that it is more appropriate to understand mukbangs of large-capacity products not simply as gluttony but as a medium that can provide small happiness.
