Yoo Seung-min: "Yoon, Welfare Like Defense Industry? Even US Neocons Don't Say That"
Former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min raised criticism regarding President Yoon Suk-yeol's remark at the 'Social Security Strategy Meeting' he presided over the previous day, where he said, "Social security and social welfare services must be developed like the relationship between national defense and the defense industry to be sustainable."
On the 1st, Yoo stated through his social media (SNS), "While presiding over the welfare policy meeting, the president particularly emphasized 'competition, marketization, and industrialization.'"
He pointed out, "Essentially, welfare is not an area of the market but of the state, so it is questionable what kind of welfare President Yoon’s philosophy and policy represent when he pursues 'competition, marketization, and industrialization' even in welfare."
He continued, "President Yoon mentioned competition, marketization, and industrialization in welfare, citing national defense and the defense industry as examples. Since the defense industry contributes to exports and economic growth while also supporting national defense through competition and marketization, it sounds like he means 'welfare should go the way of the defense industry.' Welfare like the defense industry? How can the public possibly accept what on earth this means?"

Yoo added, "Despite it being the so-called 'Social Security Strategy Meeting,' there was not a single mention of 'polarization and inequality,' and seeing the president shouting 'competition, marketization, and industrialization,' I am deeply concerned about where the Yoon Suk-yeol administration’s welfare policy is heading. Even American neoconservatives do not talk about welfare like that."
